Eskom running on fumes to maintain national grid, moves to stage 3

Emergency reserves are required to respond to emergencies in order to maintain the stability of the national grid.

‘That escalated fast’ is all Twitter users had to say in the wake of state-owned utility, Eskom, suddenly ramping up loadshedding to stage 3.

Stage 3 loadshedding started this morning at 8am, and is set to last until 10pm this evening.

The struggling power provider said that while slight improvements had been made, it has again experienced a number of breakdowns.

“Regretfully, this mean we have had to implement stage 3 loadshedding in order to continue replenishing emergency reserves which have been depleted,” Eskom said.

Emergency reserves are required to respond to emergencies in order to maintain the stability of the national grid.

Eskom will revert back to stage 2 loadshedding at 10pm this evening.

Breakdowns currently total some 13 995MW with a further 1 273MW out on maintenance.
