Damaged voltage cable might only be fixed by Friday; expect loadshedding

The Advertiser understands that repairs are still underway on the faulted main high voltage cable.

Yet it appears repairs might only be completed by Friday afternoon.

Yesterday the metro confirmed that repairs to the damaged high voltage cable at Witkoppie substation was underway.

It was also mentioned at the time that power supply was expected to be fully restored by 5pm.

By Tuesday affected areas Atlasville, Beyers Park, Boksburg North, Comet, Impala Park, Morgan Ridge, Ravensklip and Witfield were still experiencing power outages.

This was because the metro has implemented load shedding in these suburbs between 8am to around 5pm as work continues. Suburbs during the time of loadshedding may experience outages of up to four hours.

The Advertiser has not yet received an official statement from the metro by Tuesday, even though an inquiry has been forwarded.

There are also talks of a stromwater drain that needs to be fixed as well, as this has led to the cable being exposed. This has not yet been confirmed by the metro.
