Loadshedding to return tonight, says Eskom

Eskom said the possibility of future loadshedding would continue to be high because of the need to perform maintenance on existing infrastructure.

Eskom will return to Stage 2 loadshedding from 9pm tonight until 5am tomorrow, the power utility announced this evening.

“The return to service of 3 generation units has been delayed, while another 3 generation units tripped during the day, reducing available generation capacity,” said Eskom.

A generation unit each at the Tutuka and Kendal power stations tripped while a single Komati unit was forced down.

The return to service of a generation unit each at the Kriel, Medupi and the Duvha power stations has been delayed.

Eskom as 4 775MW on planned maintenance, while another 12 699MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns and delays.

Eskom said the possibility of future loadshedding would continue to be high because of the need to perform maintenance on existing infrastructure.

Residents can help prevent the extended power failures by turning off geysers, aircons and non-essential equipment prior to switch on to avoid trips on load.
