Load-shedding off the cards over weekend

“Eskom would like to remind the public that the system remains constrained and vulnerable.”

No load-shedding was expected over the weekend, Eskom said.

“Eskom is pleased to inform the public that no load-shedding is expected for this weekend due to a lower demand and the improvement in the available generation capacity,” spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.

However, he noted that the system remained constrained and vulnerable.

“Should there be any significant breakdown, load-shedding may have to be implemented at short notice,” Mantshantsha said, adding that they would communicate any further changes with the public.

“Unplanned breakdowns amount to 8 947 MW of capacity, adding to the 6 620 MW currently out on planned maintenance.”

He further said their teams were “working around the clock” to return as many of their generation units to service “as soon as possible”.

“Eskom would like to thank the people of South Africa for their cooperation through the difficulties imposed by the constrained supply capacity,” Mantshantsha said, further calling on the public to continue using electricity sparingly to stave off the power utility implementing load-shedding.
