Ramaphosa to answer questions in Parliament over the load shedding
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to return to the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday afternoon to answer questions from various political parties that include his administration's plans to stabilise the electricity grid in the country.
Spokesperson in the Presidency, Tyrone Seale, says this will include Ramaphosa elaborating on the R131 billion commitment to allow South Africa to move away from the use of coal towards green energy.
This follows a commitment by the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the European Union at the COP26 Climate conference earlier this month that they would be supporting South Africa's transition into a lower carbon economy.
"The President will also indicate measures that the government is taking to ensure that the energy transition is just for the workers and communities who depend on coal-fired power stations for their livelihoods," says Seale.
During his Q&A session, Ramaphosa is also expected to outline the government's roadmap towards the revitalisation of Eskom.
